Get around in the city
SInce 2012,the tramway has deeply changed Brest daily life . The renovation of the Capucin place is one of the most important change of these last years, previously a military base, it's today a multimedia library and a a huge place for the shops and street performances .
An international city, dedicated to reseach and doctorate graduated students, will open soon. This new place is connected to the city center by the first french cable car.
To finish, the castle marina is the new trendy place to go out. Especially during ocean racing events, pubs and cafés are highly frequented.
Faire de belles balades dans la ville de Brest
Du pont de Recouvrance, vous pourrez apercevoir des bateaux militaires, à défaut de pouvoir visiter la base navale (ouverte au public en été). N'hésitez pas à passer une journée à Océanopolis où vous découvrirez plus de 10.000 animaux de 1.000 espèces différentes dans des environnements marins reconstitués. En 2014, le site fêtera son dix millionième visiteur.
Autre balade incontournable : les Beaux Dimanches de la rue Saint-Malo (dernière rue pavée à ne pas avoir été bombardée pendant la guerre). C'est gratuit et il y en a pour tous les goûts : spectacles musicaux, théâtre, danse, expo, projections de films, slams, etc.
Enfin, vous pouvez profiter du sable fin et des coquillages de la plage du Trez-Hir à Plougonvelin (à 20 minutes de Brest en voiture), faire un tour à la plage du Moulin-Blanc, vous promener le long les rives de la Penfeld ou au jardin du Conservatoire national botanique.
Culture : ce qu'il ne faut pas rater à Brest
Brest comblera les cinéphiles avec ses 30 salles de cinéma aux tarifs étudiants avantageux : 4,50 € aux Studios, 5 € au Celtic et 5,80 € au multiplexe Liberté. Un second multiplexe devrait renforcer cette offre à la fin 2015, sur le futur plateau des Capucins. À ne pas rater : le Festival européen du film court, qui a lieu chaque année après la rentrée, au Quartz.
Ne pas oublier de passer à côté de la librairie Dialogues, square Monseigneur-Roull. Véritable institution brestoise (depuis 1976), cette librairie-café est un petit paradis pour ceux qui aiment bouquiner, lovés dans un canapé ou pour réviser autour d'un café quand les bibliothèques universitaires sont pleines à craquer avant les partiels.
Et après avoir fait le plein de bons bouquins, vous pourrez aller flâner gratuitement au musée des Beaux-Arts, chaque dernier dimanche du mois.
Take a walk in the city
From the Recouvrance bridge, you can see French Navy ships. Océanopolis is an aquarium you must visit, with 10.000 live animals and 1.000 different species, it is the biggest european sea park.
Saint Malo is a typical brittany city with good living and a wonderful place for a walk on a sunny day.
Last but not least, you'll find the most beautiful beaches at the Trez-Hir in Plougonvelin (20 minutes by car from Brest) and near Crozon (30 min by car from Brest). The only beach in the city is the Moulin Blanc, well known amongst kitesurfers and windsurfers.
Culture : what you can't miss
Brest is fitted with approximately 30 cinemas : 4,50 € for students at the Studios cinema and 5,80 € at the Liberté multiplex. The Quartz, the Carene and the Arena are the largest concert and performance venues.

Each year, many activities and performances are scheduled ! The Déambule is one of the music festivals programmed by the faculty in the heart of the city.
On april, the Petarades make lively a part of the city : it's, once again, a free music festival lead by the faculty.
Astropolis is the first electronic festival in Europe. During 3 days, the atmosphere is amazing in the city!
The SUAPS (service universitaire des activités physiques et sportives) of the faculty, the UBO (université de Bretagne-Occidentale), is THE deal. In exchange of 25 €, more than 50 sports are accessible, from climbing to badminton, but also sea canoeing.
Brest focuses on : rowing, canoeing, catamaran, windsurf, jet-ski, kitesurf, optimist, diving, surf… To get more information, the nautical service of Brest Métropole Océane located on the marina of the Moulin-Blanc is the best point of contact.
